Maresca Dismisses Manchester City Links to Reaffirm Long-Term Chelsea Commitment

Maresca

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has firmly rejected growing speculation linking him with the managerial position at Manchester City. Addressing the rumours ahead of the Blues’ trip to Newcastle, Maresca described the reports as entirely unfounded and emphasised that his focus remains solely on his current role at Stamford Bridge.

The speculation intensified following reports that the Italian was high on City’s shortlist to succeed Pep Guardiola, should the Catalan depart at the end of the season. Given Maresca’s history as Guardiola’s assistant during City’s treble-winning 2022/23 campaign, the links appeared plausible to many. However, Maresca moved swiftly to label the claims as “100 per cent speculation.”

Commitment to the Long-Term Project

Since taking charge in West London, Maresca has been committed to building a sustainable, long-term project. He pointed to his current contract, which extends through to 2029, as clear evidence of his dedication. “I don’t pay any attention because I know it is not true,” Maresca stated, noting that similar rumours had linked him to Juventus only a week prior.

The head coach highlighted that external discussion does not distract him from the task at hand. Instead, his attention is dedicated to preparing the squad for upcoming Premier League challenges and domestic competitions. Despite the widespread media discussion regarding potential vacancies at the Etihad Stadium, Maresca confirmed he is not considering any move away from London.

Stability Amidst the Noise

Maresca stressed the importance of stability and continuity at Chelsea, affirming that his primary goal is to lead the club successfully rather than entertain rumours about other opportunities. This stance is particularly significant following his recent candid remarks about internal pressures at the club, where he described the period following a victory over Everton as “the worst 48 hours” due to a perceived lack of support.

By reaffirming his loyalty, Maresca has sought to put an end to persistent rumours and refocus attention on Chelsea’s ongoing season objectives. He underscored his pride in working with the current players and staff, reiterating that his commitment remains unwavering.

Overall, Maresca’s response reinforces his dedication to the Chelsea project, signalling that speculation about other managerial roles will not impact his efforts to return the club to the pinnacle of English and European football.
