Spurs Dominate Frankfurt to Book Last-16 Place

Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the Champions League last 16 with a composed 2-0 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt, securing a fourth-place finish in the group and home advantage for the knockout stage.

Despite a turbulent domestic season, Thomas Frank’s side displayed European poise, controlling possession and restricting the hosts to few meaningful chances. Spurs registered 15 shots, demonstrating dominance throughout.

The opening breakthrough came immediately after the restart. Randal Kolo Muani (47′) capitalised on a clever header flick from Cristian Romero following a cross from Xavi Simons beyond the far post, finishing with precision to give Spurs the lead against his former club. This goal came just a day after a minor car accident, in which Kolo Muani’s Ferrari suffered a tyre blowout, forcing him to take a separate flight to Germany to join the squad.

Frankfurt, in crisis after sacking Dino Toppmöller, were under the temporary management of Dennis Schmitt and struggled to cope. Their isolated threats, including a crossbar effort, did little to challenge Spurs’ organised defence.

Late in the match, substitute Dominic Solanke (77′) sealed the victory with a composed low finish after a defensive error, ensuring Tottenham’s qualification was beyond doubt.

European Brilliance Amid Domestic Struggles

Speaking after the match, Thomas Frank praised his team’s resilience and adaptability:

“We looked in control for most of the game. Seventeen points, fourth in the group, six clean sheets – very impressive,” he said. “We have just changed the system to 3-4-3; the last three games have been very positive and it will only get better.”

Frank also added a personal note to Kolo Muani:
“I asked him, ‘Please start scoring against teams other than just your former clubs.’ He showed great character and mentality today.”

With Tottenham now set to face Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge, or Galatasaray in the last 16, the team can approach the draw with renewed confidence, demonstrating that European nights continue to bring out their best, even amid a challenging domestic campaign.
