Ward-Prowse Joins Burnley on Loan

West Ham United midfielder James Ward-Prowse, 31, is set to join Burnley on loan until the end of the season. The midfielder, who has struggled for playing time under Nuno Espirito Santo, was included on the bench in West Ham’s 3-1 win over Sunderland, but has not featured in matches this season.

Ward-Prowse previously experienced a similar situation during a loan at Nottingham Forest, where he was returned to West Ham early after falling out of Nuno’s plans. Burnley hope that his Premier League experience and set-piece expertise will strengthen their midfield as they fight to avoid relegation.

Adama Traoré Signs for West Ham

West Ham have also signed winger Adama Traoré from Fulham in a deal worth £1–2 million, reuniting the 30-year-old Spanish international with manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who coached him at Wolves from 2018 to 2021.

Traoré signed a contract until the end of the season, with an option for a further year. Nuno highlighted his importance:

Adama is someone who knows the Premier League very well, and his unique qualities as a player will help us between now and the end of the season. He will give us a different option in attacking areas.

Traoré expressed his excitement:

I’m so happy to be here, so happy to help the team the maximum I can and show my quality. I love the challenges, and we will take it game by game.

The winger made just two Premier League starts for Fulham this season, but his experience and speed make him a valuable addition for West Ham’s relegation fight.

Impact on West Ham Squad and Finances

West Ham’s January window has been busy, with earlier signings including forwards Pablo Felipe (£20m) and Taty Castellanos (£25.2m). Several departures were completed, including Guido Rodríguez and Andy Irving, while Lucas Paqueta’s move to Flamengo is agreed verbally but not yet official.

The acquisition of Traoré for a minimal fee (£1–2m) demonstrates the club’s strategy of strengthening the squad cost-effectively while maintaining financial flexibility.

Ward-Prowse’s Role at Burnley

Burnley see Ward-Prowse as a key midfield addition for the remainder of the season. His experience and set-piece ability could be decisive as the team seeks points to secure Premier League survival. The loan provides the midfielder with a chance to play regular football after limited opportunities at West Ham.
